Whining ...

... sometimes gets you what you want ...

I have to be careful here because Frank does read my blog. However I will chance it and tell you the tale and hope I tell it in such a way it doesn't come back to bite me 😊😊.

We had a fancy dress up event to go to ... a fundraiser ... and when you live in a small town, dress up occasions are far and few between. My plan was to wear the dress I bought back in the spring for the school reunion ... a favourite for both us. Frank, of course, had some ideas as to what would or wouldn't go under said dress ... and he also expected me to do my nails. If you are a new reader you may need to go back in time  here, to understand there has been a bit of a ttwd transformation in the past year (hmmm ... or maybe I still have a ways to go? 😊)

Late afternoon of the dinner event, after shower, hair, makeup, etc I decided I'd procrastinated enough and it was time to get on with doing my nails. Although I don't mind wearing nail polish, applying it is something I really don't like doing so it was with reluctance that I assembled all the 'gear' at the dining table ... newspaper on the table, base and top coat, polish, nail polish remover, swabs and my magnifier light. I started with a clear base coat and as I was finishing with it, Frank joined me at the table with an afternoon snack and his tablet.

Me .... "I really hate doing this you know. I don't understand why you won't do it for me"

Yes, I heard that ... your collective Blogland ... "Eh?!"

... In answer to your silent question ... I say that because Frank is a retired tradesman painter with 45 years of experience who, with great precision, can cut in a wall, lines straight as arrows, without leaving a speck of paint on a ceiling or baseboard ... so paint? ... nail polish? ...  both are coloured, viscous liquids, requiring a brush and a steady hand to apply ... so now you see why I think him doing 10 little finger nails should be a snap.

Frank ... "You do it because I ask you do it. I don't understand why its such a big deal ... other women manage to do their nails all the time. Stop your whining."

Me ... "If it's that important to you then maybe every time you want my nails done, I should just go to the salon and get them done."

Up quirks the eyebrow ... "and maybe I should just paddle your ass and if you keep it up, that's exactly what I'm going to do"

Alrighty then ... back to it I go. By now I'm done with the clear base coat and commencing on the colour coat. I start with my right hand because I am right handed, making it the hardest for me to do so I do it first ... and sure enough, as is the usual, I get overruns on the first two nails I do ...

"Look! ... see I hate this ... its gets all over the effing place and then I have to spend a half an hour with nail polish remover, cleaning up all the edges."

He takes my hand examining the mess I've just made ... and then (yesss!!) gestures with his other hand for me to hand over the polish ...

He looks at me and shakes his head as he shakes the polish bottle. He opens it, takes my hand again and commences with a ... "Hold still" ...

Lickety split ...  in 10 minutes I have two perfectly applied coats of colour polish on my nails on both hands ...

.... be it paint, polish (or paddle) ... he does a perfect job ;))

  2. Ok attempting this on my phone as currently my computer is dead. Please forgive any odd words thrown in. Lol

This made me laugh because so much of what you wrote is me. I loathe painting my nails and when I do it is the faintest of colours...taken off within 48 hours. Don't get me wrong B has me in a dress more often than not, I'm just not a nail polish kind of girl.

The second part I relate to is the delivery. Lol. Sometimes my frustration gets the better of me as well. I am grateful that B holds his ground yet examines the situation before deciding to play the Dd card.

You weren't around but years ago after I cut myself pretty badly with a new knife B instituted a rule that I had to wear a cutting glove. For those who have known me since this has been a thorn in my side. I loathe it! I complained about it all the time. Once I was caught without it and I had to wear the darn thing all day! Did I mention it's bright orange? Thankfully my best friend knows of our dynamic so it made it slightly less weird. Anyway, last night he decided after hearing me out that I no longer was required to wear it. He thought I was just complaining, most likely just like Frank with your nails, until he really understood the reason I hated it so ( for me cooking is very much a sensory thing with the glove I feel detached from the food... stupid I know).

My long nong winded point? Sometimes we get our message out in a less than submissive way- or so it would seem in print, but I think if we are fortunate our husbands see through the delivery and understand the reason. After all you were still doing what he wanted just not gracefully. So I give you a 5 in the submission scale. Lmao!

    1. I'm guessing that 5 is on a '10' scale ... lol! ... yes, as I was writing this post, I very quickly realized just how much I was not at my submissive best ... I'm lucky I didn't get the paddle before the paint :>)) ... nj

  3. We should always go with out strengths - and it seems his strength is definitely painting! I could never do my right hand. Maybe you should offer him a foot massage or something in exchange for his talents.

  4. NJ,

Maybe you could have him rent out his services for nail polish application? It seems there are a few of us that would like his expertise?

  5. Nora Jean, I always remember a scene in Bull Durham with Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon where he is painting her toenails in bed. Super sexy.

You two have a wide imagination, and there must be someway to take this to the bedroom. I have faith that Frank can think of something.

    1. Hi Leigh ... I would love to do the nail salon thing. I do it for pedi's but given nail polish on my hands only lasts for a couple of days, salon time for mani's would be expensive. Frank has already indicated he's willing to do it again :>)) ... nj

  9. NJ,
Cracking up over here! I was waiting for this story and it was not what I expected! I love it! Well, you do take a serious approach to painting your own nails. I'd just slap one coat on and be done! Love how you go all in though even though you were complaining. LOL! And Frank.... stepped up to the plate and knocked it out of the park!! Well, perhaps you two will make a sexy time together for nail painting activities next time! Woo! Fun post! Love it! Hugs! Windy

    1. Hi Windy ... I've tried to get away with the slap and dash approach before and got caught out ... as professional painter, he knows about 'undercoats' and 2 'finish coats' and he knows it happens in the nail world as well. Re sexy time for nail painting ... I find it very sexy when he does it ... it's all part that being taken care of feeling :>)) ... happy I surprised you and you enjoyed the read! ... hugs! ... nj

  10. I hope you enjoyed the dress up event, nj. I don’t feel ‘finished’ without painted nails but the application is a pain. Well done Frank on his perfect jobs - all of them!

  11. I have to agree......with his expertise who needs a salon, you’ve got a painter right there with you! Nice of Frank to help you out, I bet he did a great job. You know, this could be the beginning of something very interesting....there is edible body paint out there to be found. :)

    1. Haha!, Laurel ... he is a professional painter but definitely not an artistic painter ... I wouldn't let him near me with body paint ... it would end up a finger painting exercise ... (hmmm ... then again, you might something there :>))) ... nj

  12. Hi NoraJean, :) Aww! So love it that Frank became your manicurist, and did a fine job as well! Seems as though a tad bit of whining paid off? It’s kind of hot to hear the paddle threat too. Ha! Sweet!

Rob has done my nails a couple of times over the years. He used to do the girls’ nails every once in a while too, which they loved! These days I head to get a mani when it needs doing, as I make a mess of the situation when I do it myself. Off I usually go.

I hope that you and Frank had a wonderful time that night! Did you smile big, every time you glanced at your nails? Have a great weekend! Many hugs,

    ❤️Katie xoxo

  13. Glad to see I'm not the only husband who likes the nails polished or interested in picking out what is under her dress. I usually send Fair Lady to the salon, since she's a tomboy at heart and is hell on her nails. I have the salon apply polish called "No I'm not a waitress."

    1. Hi DK ... ha! ... so FL is another tomboy ... there are a few of us around this area of Blogland :>)) Nice! that you arrange for salon polish time. I do go to the salon for pedi's but I'm too hard on my finger nails to get them done regularly at a salon. When I get a pedi, the best part is picking the colour ... I like bright colours and sassy names ... nj
